The Practitioners

Dr. Clarence Lu, L.Ac.

Clarence is nationally certified in Acupuncture, Chinese Herbs and Oriental Medicine by the NCCAOM. He received a Master's degree from the Pacific College of Oriental Medicine in NYC and taught there for five years as well. He is licensed in New York and Connecticut and is a Doctor of Acupuncture in Rhode Island.

Clarence was first introduced to the wonders of Chinese Medicine when he started to study Kung Fu, Tai Chi and Qigong in the mid 1970's. When he returned to Union College in 1982 from a year of study at Peking University in China, he planned to combine his pre-med background with his interest in Chinese medicine by doing research on Chinese Herbs. Instead, he went to Yale University where he studied traditional Chinese philosophy and history and received his first Master's degree.

Clarence travelled through China and Tibet for a number of years exploring the country and its traditions. Settling in NYC, he returned to his pursuit of Tai Chi, Qigong, Meditation, and Baguazhang. At this time he authored and co-authored many articles in Kung Fu, Tai Chi and Qigong magazines and presided as a judge at local and national Kung Fu and Tai Chi tournaments. Finally, he had an epiphany and realized that all his interests and formal schooling were dove-tailing in the same direction – studying and practicing Chinese medicine.

Judy Kodela, L.Ac.

Judy is a New York State Licensed Acupuncturist, and is nationally certified by the NCCAOM. She attended Nanjing University of Traditional Chinese Medicine in China, where she received her 3-year Certificate in Acupuncture. While in China, she interned in a hospital clinic treating patients ranging from children to seniors.

Judy’s first career was in Dietetic Services at a local hospital where her main duties were menu planning, food procurement and staff management, yet her innate interest in the mind-body connection and non-conventional medicine led her to other areas. It was not until Master Jiang Jian-ye in 1992 introduced Tai Chi and Qigong to her, did she realize that the study of Qigong, and then Acupuncture was her true destiny. Within a few years she became a certified Tai Chi instructor, as well as a gold and silver medalist in several national and international Tai Chi and Kung Fu competitions. Judy’s desire for a deeper knowledge in energy healing led her to study with Grandmaster T.K. Shih of the Chinese Healing Arts Center who trained and certified her as a Medical Qigong Therapist and instructor.

Judy’s years of Tai Chi and extensive Qigong practice is the foundation for her understanding of the energetic system on the physical, emotional and spiritual levels and thus her deep understanding of Chinese Medicine. Her treatments are unique because she can easily treat and instruct on each of these levels that are naturally all part of a person’s health and life.
